The water level of your pool can decrease due to natural water evaporation or potential leaks.
Typically, pools lose about 1 inch of water per week due to evaporation. The loss may be slightly more if you use the heater extensively or have water features like fountains or waterfalls.
Check for visible leaks around pool equipment and pipes. Close the return valves of water features like waterfalls or fountains and monitor if the water level stabilizes over a few days. Verify that the valve of your waste/discharge line is closed tightly and without leaks. Perform a “bucket test” to compare water loss and confirm if the pool is losing water.
A bucket test is a simple method to compare the water loss rate in a bucket placed in the pool with the water loss rate of the pool itself. By comparing the two, you can determine if the pool is losing an excessive amount of water.
If you’re unable to identify the cause of the water loss or it continues despite your efforts, it’s recommended to contact Pool Ally or a professional pool service provider for assistance.
Keeping the water level of your pool at the recommended level, typically halfway up the skimmer mouth, is important for proper filtration, skimming, and overall pool function. Maintaining the right water level helps prevent damage and keeps your pool or spa in good condition.
There can be several reasons for this issue. One common factor is that most automatic pool cleaners only operate when the pool pump is running. Other possible causes include blockages, water flow issues, hose problems, suction adjustments, clogged filters, or dirty wheels/tracks.
Ensure there is no debris or obstructions at the bottom/suction side of the cleaner that may impede water flow. Check the water flow by verifying that your pool pump is functioning correctly and that the filter and skimmer baskets are clean. Inspect the cleaner’s hoses for blockages, kinks, or cracks and address them accordingly. Adjust the suction level of the pool cleaner, if possible, to increase its movement. Check if the cleaner’s filter is clogged or dirty and clean or replace it if necessary. Examine the wheels or tracks of the cleaner for dirt or debris, ensuring they are clean and free of obstructions.
If the problem persists after attempting the above steps, it is recommended to contact Pool Ally or a professional pool cleaner for further troubleshooting and repairs.
Pool pump priming is the process of removing air from the pump and pipes, and filling them with water to ensure proper water flow. Priming is crucial as it prevents pump damage, and overheating, and ensures optimal pump performance.
Check the water level to ensure it is sufficient, ideally halfway up the skimmer mouth. Low water levels can cause the pump to lose prime. Inspect the skimmer and pump baskets and clear any debris or clogs from the skimmer and pump baskets, as clogs can prevent water from reaching the pump, leading to a loss of prime.
It is recommended to contact Pool Ally or a professional pool service provider. Pool Ally can manually prime the pump with the following steps: Turn off the pool pump, ensuring it is not scheduled to turn on through timers or automation systems. Remove the pump lid, and check the gasket and strainer basket for debris. Fill the strainer basket with water and securely replace the lid, ensuring the gasket is in place. Close all suction-side valves, except for the main drain. Turn on the pool pump and allow it to run for several minutes until water flows steadily and the pump basket is full of water. Gradually open the air release valve on the filter until water comes out. Open the closed valves and adjust them to achieve proper water flow.
